A small kindness, right when it’s needed

Snacks for Students

Because nobody should have to be the kid without a snack.

A need hiding in plain sight

A Small Need That Adds Up

Some children eat lunch early and get hungry again before the school day ends. Teachers often buy snacks with their own money, just to help kids make it through the afternoon.

I started helping because it was a simple need we could address. Couponing, community donations, and Amazon wishlists helped make snacks available without asking teachers to carry the whole cost.

The rule that matters most

The Most Important Rule: Enough for Everyone

Every child in the classroom receives the same snack, regardless of their family’s circumstances. No one is singled out for needing a little help.

Teachers don’t have to decide who deserves it. Everyone gets to take part, with dignity. Simple as that.

Some good ideas find their way back

A Little Idea Comes Full Circle

Over the years, Snacks for Students grew beyond what I could manage alone. Another organization eventually continued the work, although that effort has since ended.

And then, this school year, I found myself starting again.

This time, with my youngest son’s classroom.

It’s not a big program or a complicated operation. It’s simply making sure there are snacks available when kids need them.

Same idea. Same reason. A whole new chapter.

Small starts count

An Idea Worth Sharing

You don’t need to launch a nonprofit or organize a massive donation drive to make a difference.

Sometimes it starts with asking a teacher what their classroom needs.

Maybe it’s snacks. Maybe it’s supplies. Maybe it’s something nobody has thought to ask about yet.

Start there.
